What is a conflict of interest?
When you have a personal interest (e.g. financial, business interest, relationship, family relation) that could affect or be affected by a person affiliated with Council (e.g. employee, Councillor, contractor, volunteer).
What is an actual (real) conflict of interest?
An interest that actively exists between yourself and Council and that interest improperly influences a person affiliated with Council in the performance of their duties. For example, your husband is part of the panel who will be responsible for determining the successful licensee.
What is a perceived (apparent) conflict of interest?
Is not a conflict of interest but could be perceived by others as a conflict of interest. For example, you volunteer at a sports club which was just awarded a grant by Council.
What is a potential (possible) conflict of interest?
An interest that could potentially impact or influence a person affiliated with Council in the performance of their duties. For example, you have applied for a job at Council and could be the successful applicant during the Expression of Interest period.
