FREE Community First Aid Training - REGISTER NOW for 2024 courses!
The Recovery Team at Council has arranged for Red Cross to deliver more accredited First Aid training for residents in parts of the Hawkesbury in 2024.
Places are limited and there is a compulsory four-hour online component to be completed before a full-day Saturday session (9:30am - 4pm) at one of the following locations:
Windsor – Saturday 13 January 2024 -
FULL Richmond – Saturday 3 February 2024 - FULL
Kurrajong - Saturday 2 March 2024 - FULL
Wilberforce - Saturday 4 May 2024 - 16 spots available
Saturday 1 June 2024 - Location to be confirmed - 19 spots available
Windsor - 29 June 2024 - 18 spots available
Successful completion of the full-day face-to-face practical training will provide you with the following units of competency:
• HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• HLTAID010 Provides basic emergency life support
• HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

Heatwaves and Health in the Hawkesbury: A Disaster Risk Reduction Initiative
Heatwaves and heat illness are a significant risk in the Hawkesbury. Delivered by Andrew North (senior paramedic, St John Ambulance) and Jack Kensey (Environmental Sustainability Coordinator, Hawkesbury City Council) with Marti Gauci (Community Bushcare Officer, Hawkesbury Community Nursery) and Tracey Greenaway (Bright Ideas to Build Resilience, Hawkesbury City Council) at Strong Nation, Windsor, on 22 November 2023; this workshop address heat related illness and its impacts, where to get help and resources, and looks at community-led solutions.

Pillowcase Project - Kids Preparedness Workshop
Delivered by Red Cross volunteers and staff, the Pillowcase workshop encourages children to be active participants in their own emergency preparedness. The content is useful for all kinds of emergencies and includes activities to highlight the importance of being prepared. Pillowcase helps to reduce real and imagined fears and has successfully built children’s stress management skills. Register your interest here
Youth REDiPlan Preparedness Program Resources
Educating youth in disaster preparedness plays a part in creating a culture of preparedness and resilience in the community as a whole. The Red Cross REDiPlan preparedness program resources are an age appropriate and engaging way to educate youth about the importance of disaster preparedness so they can make a very real and positive difference before, during and after an emergency. The REDiPlan resources are designed to complement Red Cross’s ‘Emergency REDiPlan Get Ready!’ activity book. Find the REDiPlan resources here
Psychological Support Community Tools
The Community Toolkit provides guidance for community groups and organisations when supporting their communities to learn about the psychosocial impacts of crises and how to provide good support to one another. Additional information though brochures and flyers are available to describe the psychosocial impacts of disasters, common reactions to stress and provide information on strategies for coping and recovery.
