Hawkesbury Streets: Activate and Celebrate
Hawkesbury City Council is exploring ways to make selected public spaces in Windsor easier, quicker and more affordable to use for events, activities and community activation.
The Permit/Plug/Play project will look at both the physical infrastructure available in public spaces and the processes involved in using them.
We want to create places that are more event-ready, with the right infrastructure and practical arrangements in place so that businesses, community groups, event organisers and creatives can spend less time working around logistical challenges and more time creating great experiences.
Council has received $500,000 in funding from the NSW Government Permit/Plug/Play Program to deliver improvements through this project.
What could Permit/Plug/Play include?
Nothing has been decided yet. Depending on what we hear through this consultation and further technical investigations, improvements could include:
- Access to permanent or easily accessible power
- Water connections
- Improved or adaptable lighting
- Festoon lighting or infrastructure to support decorative lighting
- Permanent hanging or fixing points for decorations, banners or event elements
- Opportunities for public art or road/pavement art
- Clearer or more streamlined processes for suitable activities
- Pre-approved layouts, templates or event configurations
The aim is not simply to install infrastructure. We want to understand what would actually make a difference to the people who organise, participate in and attend activities in our town centres.
Why we are asking
We want to hear from event organisers, local businesses, community organisations, creatives, stallholders, service providers and the broader community.
In particular, we'd like to understand:
- What kinds of events and activities would you like to see?
- What currently makes organising activities difficult?
- What infrastructure would make our public spaces more useful?
- Are there events or activities that could happen here but currently don't?
- Are there organisations that previously held activities in our town centres but no longer do?
- Which locations would benefit most from investment?
- What would help Windsor support a greater variety of activities throughout the year?
Your feedback will help Council determine the priorities for the project and inform the design and delivery of future improvements.
