Memorials are an important feature of the Hawkesbury’s towns and our cultural landscape. They bear witness to our collective past and provide important focal points for ongoing remembrance.
To ensure memorials and their approval and ongoing maintenance are managed appropriately and consistently, Hawkesbury City Council has developed a Draft Memorial Policy, which is on public exhibition from today until Wednesday 11 June 2025.
The Draft Policy will provide Council and the community with guidance on the approval, installation, maintenance, removal and relocation of memorials, plaques, tree planting and the scattering of ashes on land under the care and control of Council. It places specific focus on large memorials and individuals and groups that have made a significant contribution to the Hawkesbury.
The Draft Memorial Policy and other supporting documentation can be viewed during the exhibition period on Council’s online community engagement site www.yourhawkesbury-yoursay.com.au, or between 9:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Friday at Council’s Administration Office, 366 George Street, Windsor.
For any further enquiries about the Draft Memorial Policy, contact Sean Perry on 4650 4444 or by email to council@hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au with reference to ‘Draft Memorial Policy’.
