Our Paths, Our Stories: Community Storytelling and Safety
Hawkesbury City Council has received $150,000 in funding through the NSW Government’s Safer Cities: Her Way 2 Program to deliver a creative communications campaign in Windsor, focused on improving the experiences and perceptions of safety for women, girls and gender-diverse people in public spaces.
The project will explore what helps people feel welcome, comfortable, represented and connected in Windsor, while creating opportunities to celebrate, elevate and amplify the voices, stories, histories and achievements of women, girls and gender-diverse people of the Hawkesbury.
Through community engagement, walkshops, place-based consultation and co-design, we’ll hear directly from the people who live, work, study and spend time in Windsor. These insights will help us better understand experiences of safety and belonging and inform the development of the creative campaign.
Council will also work with a creative practitioner to help translate what we hear into meaningful, engaging and creative responses.
A note about this consultation
Conversations about safety and public spaces can affect people differently. You are welcome to skip any question you don't feel comfortable answering or stop the survey at any time.
This consultation is focused on understanding people's experiences and perceptions of public spaces and opportunities to improve them. It is not intended as a channel for reporting emergencies or individual incidents.
The project area
The project focuses on an area of Windsor extending from Windsor Station, past McQuade Park, Windsor Public School, leading to Hawkesbury Central Library.
What are we hoping to achieve?
This is where you come in. We want the creative direction for this project to be shaped by the people who know Windsor and the Hawkesbury best. Through community conversations, co-design and collaboration with a creative practitioner, we’ll explore how local stories, voices and experiences could come to life in Windsor. This could take many forms, from storytelling and public art to creative installations and temporary activations.
Your ideas will help us discover what could be most meaningful for Windsor.
Through the project, Council aims to:
- Celebrate women, girls and gender-diverse people and their contribution to the Hawkesbury
- Strengthen visibility and representation in Windsor
- Better understand perceptions of safety, comfort and belonging
- Create opportunities for community participation and co-design
- Explore how local stories, voices, histories and achievements can be elevated through creative and artistic expression

Have Your Say
We want to hear from people who live, work, study, visit or spend time in Windsor. You don't need to be an expert in public spaces or safety. Your everyday experiences and observations can help us better understand what makes Windsor feel welcoming and comfortable, and where there may be opportunities for improvement.
